On November 2, <em>El Mundo<\/em> ran a piece profiling the career of the man behind the u-turn of the BCEs monetary policy, the former Governor of the Bank of Italy, <strong>\u201cSuperMario\u201d Draghi <\/strong>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/economia\/2015\/11\/02\/5631268be2704e015a8b462f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">De ejecutivo de Goldman a &#8216;SuperMario&#8217;<\/a>, and 2 days later, <em>Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em> wrote about the advice of a major investment bank to buy Italian and Spanish state bonds as they are offering better returns than those of other European countries &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-11-04\/italy-spain-are-jpmorgan-s-answer-to-sub-zero-yields-in-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy, Spain Are JPMorgan&#8217;s Answer to Yields in Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> \u2013 Culture featured in several papers this week, with <em>The Times<\/em>, on October 31, publishing a review of <strong>Umberto Eco\u2019s <\/strong>latest book &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/arts\/books\/fiction\/article4598645.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Numero Zero by Umberto Eco<\/a>* and on November 4, the <em>New York Times<\/em> featured a profile of writer and publisher, <strong>Roberto Calasso, <\/strong>describing him as a \u201cliterary institution\u201d &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/05\/arts\/international\/roberto-calasso-italys-publishing-maestro.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roberto Calasso, Italy\u2019s Publishing Maestro<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p>Also on November 4, <em>El Pais<\/em> chose to write about the cultural heritage of <strong>Pier Paolo Pasolini<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2015\/11\/04\/actualidad\/1446635505_062261.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La herencia libertaria del maldito Pasolini<\/a>), whilst on November 1, <em>El Mundo<\/em>, marked the opening of Verdi\u2019s Othello in Seville in a piece that described how the opera had come into being and Italy\u2019s cultural landscape at that time &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/andalucia\/2015\/11\/01\/56360b19ca4741633c8b456c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El arte de la &#8216;Scapigliatura&#8217;<\/a>. On October 30, the <em>Financial Times<\/em> reported on American photographer Joel Meyerowitz and his homage to the Italian painter <strong>Giorgio Morandi<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/f03b82b8-7e92-11e5-98fb-5a6d4728f74e.html#slide0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Snapshot: \u2018Morandi\u2019s Objects\u2019, by Joel Meyerowitz<\/a>*<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism<\/strong> \u2013 As always, tourism filled various column inches this week, and it was the <strong>Trevi Fountain<\/strong> heading up the news, with <em>Reuters<\/em> reporting on November 3 on the unveiling of one of Rome\u2019s most loved and magnificent sites \u2013 and sights \u2013 following its restoration &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/11\/04\/us-italy-art-trevi-idUSKCN0SS2AK20151104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rome&#8217;s refilled Trevi Fountain basks in restored glory<\/a> and <em>El Pais<\/em> carried a similar piece headed &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2015\/11\/03\/actualidad\/1446552903_426507.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El agua vuelve a la Fontana de Trevi tras a\u00f1o y medio<\/a>. <em>Reuters<\/em> also featured an article, this time on October 29 however, that explored the unexpected success of Milan\u2019s <strong>Expo<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/10\/29\/italy-expo-idUSL8N12S43N20151029\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milan Expo defies naysayers, proves unexpected success<\/a>), whilst on November 3, <em>Le Monde <\/em>headed for <strong>Genoa<\/strong>, suggesting how to explore this \u201cgoddess of the sea\u201d along a route that runs from one evocative glimpse of the city to the next &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-voyage-le-lieu\/article\/2015\/11\/03\/genes-la-deesse-de-la-mer_4802160_4497643.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G\u00eanes, la d\u00e9esse de la mer<\/a>*. <em>El Pais<\/em>, on the other hand, published a piece on the same day that focused on <strong>Sicily<\/strong>, following the trail that takes in the palaces immortalized in Luchino Visconti\u2019s famous film, The Leopard &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elviajero.elpais.com\/elviajero\/2015\/10\/29\/actualidad\/1446137384_372108.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los palacios de \u2018El Gatopardo\u2019<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>How the combination of fashion and tourism can result in a new tourist destination also found its way into the papers, with <em>Bloomberg<\/em> reporting on November 5 how <strong>Brunello Cucinelli<\/strong> has breathed new life into <strong>Solomeo,<\/strong> an old hilltop town in Umbria &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-11-05\/fashion-magnate-brunello-cucinelli-is-reviving-italian-hill-town\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Fashion Magnate Is Reviving a Medieval Italian Hill Town<\/a>. On the same day, the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> featured a lengthy profile on <strong>Miuccia Prada<\/strong>, focusing in particular on the recent opening of her foundation for contemporary art in Milan- <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/inside-miuccia-pradas-process-1446689350\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside Miuccia Prada\u2019s Process<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p>Bargain properties in Italy, just waiting to be snapped up, also featured&nbsp; twice this week in the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, writing, on November 4, about the \u201chouse hunters\u201d descending on the historic center of <strong>Matera<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/restoring-matera-italys-city-of-stone-1446650158\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Restoring Matera, Italy\u2019s City of Stone<\/a>, an interesting follow up to the piece that appeared two days earlier about the sale of a property in Tuscany &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/a-17th-century-villa-under-the-tuscan-sun-1446471654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A 17th-Century Villa Under the Tuscan Sun<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food and Wine <\/strong>also put in an appearanc<strong>e <\/strong>this week, just as it does always, with <em>The Times<\/em> on November 1 printing its interview with <strong>Antonio Carluccio<\/strong>, a TV chef famous in Britain, who described his childhood in Piedmont &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesundaytimes.co.uk\/sto\/style\/homes_and_gardens\/time_place\/article1626084.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time and place: Antonio Carluccio<\/a>*. On the same day, <em>Die Welt <\/em>wrote about the efforts of <strong>Barilla <\/strong>to promote the concept of sustainable food<strong> <\/strong>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welt.de\/wirtschaft\/article148301809\/So-wollen-die-Barilla-Brueder-unsere-Ernaehrung-retten.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">So wollen die Barilla-Br\u00fcder unsere Ern\u00e4hrung retten<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On November 2<em>, New York Times<\/em>, reported on Matt Baldassano\u2019s success story, describing how he continued the tradition of many Italo-Americans, producing something \u201cincredible\u201d in his home, in this case, in New York &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/05\/style\/wine-manhattan-apartment-avenue-c-new-york-city.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Winemaker of Avenue C<\/a>*. It had already published another article about Italian wines on October 29 that focused on <strong>Aglianico<\/strong>, perhaps one of the least well-known of all the great grape varietals &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/04\/dining\/your-next-lesson-aglianicos.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Your Next Lesson: Aglianicos<\/a>*.
