The Primark deparments stores, for example, are planning an initial opening in Milan in 2016, and will then open elsewhere (<em>Financial Times<\/em>,&nbsp; July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"#axzz3flr7xL9z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Primark heads for Milan with growth plans<\/a>*; <em>The Times<\/em>, July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/business\/industries\/retailing\/article4493096.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Primark fashions its arrival in Italy with new Milan store<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Italian fashion brands, held by foreign capital, are also investing in the domestic market. <strong>Valentino<\/strong>, for instance, has just opened its large store in Rome (<em>New York Times<\/em>, July 9&nbsp; &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/11\/fashion\/valentino-maria-grazia-chiuri-pierpaolo-piccioli-couture-fall-2015-rome.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Valentino\u2019s Roman Legion<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>As regards Italian investments abroad, the foreign press reported on the <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> bid for the British group Thorntons (<em>Reuters<\/em>, July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/07\/10\/ferrero-thorntons-idUSL8N0ZQ0DC20150710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrero says take-up of offer on UK&#8217;s Thorntons at 75 pct<\/a>), and <em>Bloomberg <\/em>reported of a 220 million dollar investment that <strong>Enel Green Power<\/strong> made in the wind energy sector in Mexico (July 14 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-07-14\/enel-green-investing-220-million-in-mexico-wind-farm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enel Green Investing $220 Million in Mexico Wind Farm<\/a>). There was also interest in the European success of the Fiat 500, with an interview with the director of the Fiat brand in Europe, Luca Napolitano (July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welt.de\/motor\/news\/article143723386\/3-Fragen-an-Luca-Napolitano-Vorstand-Fiat-Europa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3 Fragen an: Luca Napolitano \u2013 Vorstand Fiat Europa<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> &#8211;&nbsp; There were also highlights from the world of culture. First, there was the concert of the <strong>La Scala Philharmonic <\/strong>at Sarajevo to commemorate the massacre of Srebrenica (<em>New York Times<\/em>, July 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2015\/07\/12\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-bosnia-la-scala.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s La Scala Performs a Concert for Peace in Bosnia<\/a>*) and a profile of <strong>Gino Paoli<\/strong>, the most literary of Italian songwriters (<em>El Pais<\/em>, July 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2015\/07\/10\/eps\/1436538148_565140.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gino Paoli, la certeza de la duda<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><em>The Times<\/em> wrote about <strong>Ennio Marricone<\/strong> and the Italian composer\u2019s&nbsp; recent soundtrack for Quentin Tarantino July 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/news\/world\/europe\/article4496543.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morricone teams up with Tarantino for a few dollars more<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> was interested in painting, with an article from Florence on discovering the art of <strong>Piero di Cosimo <\/strong>(July 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/10\/arts\/international\/dazzling-piero-rehabilitated.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dazzling Piero, Rehabilitated<\/a>*), while for literature <em>El Pais<\/em> told its readers about writer <strong>Sandrone Dazieri<\/strong>\u2019s participation in the week-long festival of crime novels in the Spanish town of Gij\u00f3n (July 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2015\/07\/12\/actualidad\/1436726519_396418.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alias: Sandrone Dazieri &amp; Fant\u00f4mas<\/a>). There was also interest in new releases and the recent film by <strong>Gabriele Salvatores <\/strong>(<em>Liberation, <\/em>July 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberation.fr\/culture\/2015\/07\/14\/gabriele-salvatores-cherche-le-garcon_1347921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gabriele Salvatores cherche le gar\u00e7on<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism<\/strong> \u2013 Investors are also attracted by tourists\u2019 love of Italy. The <em>Financial Times<\/em> advised its readers to consider buying a home in <strong>Trieste<\/strong>, with a prime real estate market and high quality of life (July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/aaf9f6ac-2010-11e5-ab0f-6bb9974f25d0.html?siteedition=intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Life could be a breeze: buying a home in the Italian city Trieste<\/a>*). According to the French paper <em>Liberation, <\/em>there are also possibilities in old converted deconsacrated churches (July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberation.fr\/monde\/2015\/07\/09\/en-italie-la-dolce-vita-des-eglises-defroquees_1345461\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">En Italie, la dolce vita des \u00e9glises d\u00e9froqu\u00e9es<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And all this as Italian cities remain among the world\u2019s top ten tourist destinations. <em>Time<\/em> recently ranked Rome and Florence at the top (July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/3948406\/world-best-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">These Are the 10 Best Cities to Visit Around the World<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And while the <em>New York Times<\/em> told its readers about an enchanting honeymoon through the peninsula, from <strong>Venice to Sicily<\/strong> (July 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/12\/travel\/a-honeymoon-through-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Honeymoon Through Italy<\/a>*), <em>Franfurter Allgemeine Zeitung <\/em>went to Rome to discover the secrets of the <strong>Sistine Rooms<\/strong> in the Vatican, with its frescos and manuscripts (July 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/gesellschaft\/die-vatikanbibliothek-digitalisiert-ihre-wertvollen-werke-13694378.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Den \u201eVergilius Vaticanus\u201c lieh schon Raffael aus<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, two Spanish papers traveled to <strong>Cervino<\/strong> to narrate the conquest 150 years ago of the peak of the impossible mountain (July 14 in <em>El Pa\u00eds <\/em>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/deportes\/2015\/07\/14\/actualidad\/1436898307_913217.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">150 a\u00f1os de la conquista del Cervino<\/a>; <em>El Mundo &#8211; <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/deportes\/2015\/07\/14\/55a4be7746163f74608b456d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">150 a\u00f1os de la primera escalada a la monta\u00f1a imposible<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lifestyle: cuisine &amp; cars<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press showed interest in Italian cuisine, publishing Italian recipes (<em>The Times<\/em>, July 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/magazine\/article4490119.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tagliata with rocket and grana padano<\/a>*), as well as an analysis of the <strong>Eataly <\/strong>movement, which is \u2013 according to the Spanish <em>El Mundo<\/em> \u2013 the major food phenomenon produced by Italy recent years (July 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cultura\/2015\/07\/09\/559ead4fca47415a608b4599.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El movimiento Eataly conquista Mil\u00e1n<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, there was interest in cars. <em>Die Welt<\/em> wrote of businessman Matteo Panini\u2019s passion for collecting <strong>Maserati<\/strong> (July 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welt.de\/motor\/article143899739\/Panini-sammelt-auch-Maserati.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Panini sammelt auch Maserati<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* marked articles viewable online upon payment or registration<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Investments<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press continued to report on investments coming into Italy.
