Tourism and art<\/strong> – It might be the approaching Expo \u2013 recently under the spotlight of the foreign press \u2013 or the coming summer weather that traditionally leads to more articles about trips to the Belpaese, but last week there was an increase to the already rich offering of travel advice to readers of the foreign press. First, there is the display of the Shroud in Turin that has attracted the attention of papers such as the New York Times<\/em> (April 19 – Turin Shroud Goes Back on Display for Faithful and Curious<\/a>*), El Mundo<\/em> (April 19 – Tur\u00edn exhibe el Santo Sudario<\/a>) Le Monde<\/em>, (April 19 – Un million de personnes attendues \u00e0 l’exposition du saint suaire \u00e0 Turin<\/a>; April 20 – Le suaire, le s\u00e9isme et la science<\/a>*). As these papers explain, the even could bring a million people to the Piedmond capital.<\/p>\n

But there is not only Turin. Wall Street Journal <\/em>ran an article with suggestions for a classic visit to Venice<\/strong> (April 17 – A Travel Guide to Venice, Italy<\/a>*), while El Mundo <\/em>also visited the lagoon city <\/em>(April 19 – La memoria del exterminio est\u00e1 en una isla de Venecia<\/a>) to discover the hidden treasures of San Lazzaro degli Armeni<\/strong>. Liberation<\/em> also reported on islands with suggestions for visiting the five ideal destinations for a rest from Parisian life. For Italy, its choice fell on Elba<\/strong> with a journey in the footsteps of Napoleon (April 21 – Cinq \u00eeles \u00e0 port\u00e9e de r\u00eaves<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There was also interest in art tourism, with the New York Times<\/em> exploring the new headquarters of the Prada Foundation <\/strong>an exhibit hall that will open on May 9 (April 26 – The Prada Foundation\u2019s New Arts Complex in Milan<\/a>*). Together with the British The Times<\/em>, the US paper went to Lake Iseo<\/strong>, <\/strong>where a water installation by the artist Christo will be created in June (New York Times, <\/em>April 22 – New Christo Work to Temporarily Bridge Italy\u2019s Lake Iseo<\/a>*; The Times,<\/em> April 22  – <\/em>Christo\u2019s latest miracle work – walking on water<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

Instead, El Pais<\/em> visited Ferrara<\/strong> where it stopped to gaze on La rosa di fuoco<\/em>. The Barcelona of Picasso and Gaud\u00ed\u201d, and exhibit dedicated to Catalan modernism (April 19 – El modernisme \u2018incendia\u2019 Ferrara<\/a>) <\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Spanish paper also published an article about the Coliseum<\/strong> and the decision to rebuild the arena floor to make the monument\u2019s ancient use more comprehensible for tourist (April 17 – <\/em>El ministro de Cultura italiano: \u201cSe reconstruir\u00e1 la arena del Coliseo\u201d<\/em><\/a>). <\/em>Finally,  Le Monde <\/em>told its readers the story of the Faggian Museum<\/strong> of Lecce (April 17 – En Italie, un mus\u00e9e n\u00e9 d\u2019une fuite d\u2019eau<\/a>*), the fruit of a lucky, unexpected discovery of ancient artifacts during renovations of a building.<\/p>\n

Fashion, design, lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 There were numerous stories about the world of style. The Sunday Times<\/em> interviewed Giorgio Armini<\/strong>, a man for all seasons (April 19 – Giorgio Armani: a man for all seasons<\/a>*), while other papers wrote about Pininfarina<\/strong>. Bloomberg <\/em>traced a story in images of this designer that has contributed to the forms of the Ferrari (April 16 – A Visual History of Pininfarina, the Design House That Helped Shape Ferrari<\/a>), mentre New York Times <\/em>reviewed the interiors that the Piedmont group produced in a luxury condominium in Miami (April 17 – Ferrari Interiors for a Miami Condo<\/a>*).  There was also interest in lifestyle and the comics by Milo Manara<\/strong> that tell the story of an unknown Caravaggio (El Mundo<\/em>, April 18 – Caravaggio er\u00f3tico y sensual<\/a>) and a wide-ranging intereview with Vasco Rossi<\/strong>, (El Mundo<\/em>, April 21 – ‘Ahora estoy en mi fase heavy’<\/a>).<\/p>\n
