The 7.1 billion euro deal marking ChemChina\u2019s entry into the capital of the history Milan-based company obviously turned the spotlight of the foreign press. On March 23, the announcement brought a rash of articles in the foreign press, telling the details of the largest deal so far of Chinese investors in Italy (March <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> &#8211; ChemChina to Buy Controlling Stake in Pirelli; <em>Reuters<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/03\/23\/pirelli-ma-chemchina-idUSL6N0WO0LA20150323\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ChemChina to buy Italian tyre maker Pirelli in $7.7 bln deal<\/a>*; <em>Financial Times<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/b0bd4680-d0c8-11e4-982a-00144feab7de.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNCC closes in on Pirelli takeover<\/a>*; <em>New York Times<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2015\/03\/23\/business\/23reuters-pirelli-chemchina.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ChemChina to Buy Italian Tire Maker Pirelli in $7.7 Billion Deal<\/a>*; <em>Washington Post<\/em> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/asia_pacific\/chinese-state-company-launches-bid-for-italys-pirelli\/2015\/03\/22\/e6b7fca0-d10c-11e4-8b1e-274d670aa9c9_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chinese state company launches bid for Italy\u2019s Pirelli<\/a>; <em>El Pais<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/economia.elpais.com\/economia\/2015\/03\/23\/actualidad\/1427122951_360374.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ChemChina comprar\u00e1 al fabricante de neum\u00e1ticos Pirelli por 7.100 millones<\/a>; <em>Sueddeutsche Zeitung<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/wirtschaft\/italienischer-reifenhersteller-perle-pirelli-geht-an-china-1.2404939\">Perle Pirelli geht an China<\/a>; <em>Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/wirtschaft\/unternehmen\/uebernahme-pirelli-wird-chinesisch-13499966.html\">Pirelli wird chinesisch<\/a>; <em>Le Nouvel Observateur<\/em>: <a href=\"http:\/\/tempsreel.nouvelobs.com\/economie\/20150323.OBS5318\/italie-comment-pirelli-est-passe-sous-controle-chinois.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italie. But, as the foreign press explained, this is only part of the investment plan that has grown to 14 billion euro in the last five years (<em>New York Times<\/em>, March 23 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2015\/03\/23\/business\/23reuters-pirelli-m-a-china-shopping.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> After Pirelli, Chinese Shopping Spree in Italy to Continue<\/a>*), making Italy \u2013 according to <em>Bloomberg<\/em> \u2013 China\u2019s favourite destination for acquisitions (March 23 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-03-23\/italy-becomes-china-preferred-shopping-country-with-pirel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy Becomes China Favorite Place for Deals With Pirelli<\/a>). And, as <em>Les Echos <\/em>adds, it has become an outpost for other operations in Europe (March 24 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/journal20150324\/lec2_industrie_et_services\/0204247044345-avec-pirelli-loffensive-de-la-chine-saccelere-en-europe-1104788.php?FTApyKVhGFeuprRq.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Avec Pirelli, l&#8217;offensive de la Chine s&#8217;acc\u00e9l\u00e8re en Europe<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Along with Chinese investors, Indians are also coming to Italy. <em>Reuters<\/em>, <em>Les Echos<\/em> and <em>Le Figaro<\/em> published the news of a possible interest of Mahindra in the mythical brand <strong>Pininfarina<\/strong> (March 25 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/03\/25\/pininfarina-ma-mahindra-idUSL6N0WR43A20150325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">India&#8217;s Mahindra in talks to buy Italy&#8217;s Pininfarina<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/automobile\/0204255312872-lindien-mahindra-pourrait-racheter-le-mythique-italien-pininfarina-1105423.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L\u2019indien Mahindra pourrait racheter le mythique italien Pininfarina<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/societes\/2015\/03\/25\/20005-20150325ARTFIG00407-l-indien-mahindra-pret-a-racheter-le-designer-pininfarina.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L&#8217;indien Mahindra pr\u00eat \u00e0 racheter le designer Pininfarina<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Growth of Italian groups<\/strong> \u2013 The financial pages did not only report on the appetite of foreign investors. Italian groups are also investing abroad. <strong>General<\/strong>, for instance, is studying expansion into the Asian real estate market (March <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, 20 &#8211; Real Estate Unit of Italy\u2019s Generali Planning Move into Asia*) and <strong>Enel<\/strong>, in the industrial plan it just presented, showed interest in emerging markets and renewable energy with 18 billion in investments over the next five years (March 20 in <em>Les Echos<\/em>,&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/journal20150320\/lec2_industrie_et_services\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L&#8217;italien Enel veut rebondir gr\u00e2ce aux \u00e9nergies renouvelables<\/a> and<em> Reuters<\/em>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/03\/19\/enel-plan-idUSL6N0WL0VQ20150319\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Enel looks to emerging markets and renewables<\/a>) and a new wind energy system in the United States (<em>Bloomberg<\/em>, March 25 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-03-25\/enel-green-power-starts-construction-on-oklahoma-wind-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enel Green Power Starts Construction on Oklahoma Wind Project<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ferrero<\/strong> is also seeing higher returns with profits jumping by % thanks to the contribution of International markets (March 20 su <em>Reuters<\/em> &#8211; Ferrero profits jump 14 pct in 2014 as Kinder eggs sales soar; and <em>Les Echos<\/em>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/bourse.lesechos.fr\/infos-conseils-boursiers\/actus-des-marches\/infos-marches\/ferrero-bond-de-14-du-benefice-2014-grace-aux-oeufs-kinder-1039695.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrero-Bond de 14% du b\u00e9n\u00e9fice 2014 gr\u00e2ce aux oeufs Kinder<\/a>) as is <strong>Telecom Italia<\/strong> which had a positive showing in 2014 (<em>Expansion<\/em>, March 20 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/empresas\/tecnologia\/2015\/03\/19\/550b0160e2704e72588b456a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telecom Italia vuelve a los beneficios y gana 1.300 millones en 2014<\/a>). And, as the <em>Financial Times<\/em> explained, last years was also very positive for the Italian investment fund market, where sales practically doubled with respectd to 2013 (March 22 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/3983ab68-cbf5-11e4-beca-00144feab7de.html#axzz3VBhX7dI5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy: La dolce vita calls to fund managers<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science, culture, tourism<\/strong>&#8211; Italian culture was again a subject of interest in the foreign press, starting with <em>El Mundo<\/em>, which interviewed Umberto Eco about his latest book (March 26 febbraio &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cultura\/2015\/03\/26\/551385fc22601dfd398b456b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Umberto Eco: &#8216;Los peri\u00f3dicos ya no tienen poder sobre el hombre de la calle&#8217;<\/a>). Last week, however, there was also interest in science, with <em>Le Monde<\/em> that reported on the success of the electronic platform <strong>Arduino<\/strong>, the king of Made in Italy electronics (March 24 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/sciences\/article\/2015\/03\/23\/arduino-cerveau-a-tout-faire_4599562_1650684.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arduino, cerveau \u00e0 tout faire<\/a>*). Along with <em>Liberation<\/em>, the French paper also wrote about La Sapienza, a film by Eug\u00e8ne Green, in which the leading character find his inspiration in Italy, and the Baroque period. (March 24 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/cinema\/article\/2015\/03\/24\/la-sapienza-l-italie-pays-de-toutes-les-renaissances_4599857_3476.html#pxdOihlzCRrfW2f7.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00ab La Sapienza \u00bb : l\u2019Italie, pays de toutes les renaissances<\/a>*; March 25 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/cinema\/2015\/03\/24\/saut-en-langueur_1227573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00abLa Sapienza\u00bb&nbsp;: Saut en langueur<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Certainly, one can still take the Grand Tour today. The <em>Financial Times<\/em> suggests taking it through the tradition of small independent hotels that are preparing to give their guests the emotion of the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century (March 20 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/da46f2cc-cd66-11e4-9144-00144feab7de.html#axzz3VBhX7dI5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s boutique hotels offer modern-day Grand Tour<\/a>*).
