\u201cItaly has a new president\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 The clearest headline was undoubtedly that of Time<\/em> (Italy Has a New President<\/a>) but numerous foreign papers reported the news on January 31 that Sergio Mattarella<\/strong> had been elected to the Quirinale. The Financial Times<\/em> underlined his stature of Mafia enemy and champion of the law (Sergio Mattarella: enemy of the Mafia and champion of the law<\/a>*), reporting on the swearing in ceremony in its Photo Diary (February 4  – Welcoming Sergio Mattarella<\/a>); the New York Times<\/em> and O Globo<\/em> emphasized his last position as judge of the Constitution Court (Italy Elects Senior Judge Sergio Mattarella as President<\/a>*;  Juiz Sergio Mattarella \u00e9 eleito presidente da It\u00e1lia<\/a>); Le Monde<\/em> ran a piece about the best wishes of Fran\u00e7ois Hollande (Sergio Mattarella \u00e9lu pr\u00e9sident en Italie<\/a>) and tells the story of the man who was born twice and how he entered politics after his brother, Piersanti, was killed (February 2 – Sergio Mattarella, un pr\u00e9sident italien au-dessus de tout soup\u00e7on<\/a>) and L’Express<\/em> wrote a similar article (Qui est Sergio Mattarella, nouveau pr\u00e9sident de l’Italie?<\/a>). And while Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em>, underlining his perseverance (“Gute Arbeit, Pr\u00e4sident Mattarella!<\/a>), El Mundo<\/em> emphasized his bet on growth, obviously his first speech before Parliament (February 3 – Sergio Mattarella jura como presidente de Italia y apuesta por el crecimiento<\/a>). Die Welt<\/em>, finally, pointed out new Chief of State\u2019s opposition to the Mafia and corruption (Mattarella sagt der Mafia den Kampf an<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There was other news about the new President of Italy in the Washington Post <\/em>(January 31 – Italy\u2019s lawmakers elect Sergio Mattarella as president<\/a>); Die Zeit<\/em> (January 31 – Sergio Mattarella ist neuer Pr\u00e4sident Italiens<\/a>); Valor Economico <\/em>(January 31 – Sergio Mattarella \u00e9 eleito novo presidente da It\u00e1lia<\/a>*); Expansion<\/em> (February 1 – Italia vota a Sergio Mattarella como nuevo presidente de la Rep\u00fablica<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Style and fashion<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press also published articles on fashion and Made in Italy. Les Echos<\/em> reported on how Bulgari<\/strong> is building the largest jewelry making facility in Europe (February 4 – L’italien Bulgari va construire la plus grande manufacture joailli\u00e8re d’Europe<\/a>*), while Reuters<\/em> explained that the fashion web site Yoox<\/strong> has met analysts\u2019 expectations, showing a growth in sales of over 15% (February 4 – Italy’s Yoox meets forecast with 15 pct rise in 2014 sales<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Other articles were dedicated to engine luxury. That was the case of the new Ferrari<\/strong> 488 GTB, a seductive vehicle with a soul fed by a more powerful and efficient engine, reported on by the Washington Post<\/em> (January 31 – Ferrari unveils new \u2018sexy\u2019 car for 2015<\/a>), Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em> (February 3 – Ferrari Introduces a Turbo Engine In The New 488 GTB<\/a>), O Globo<\/em> (3 – Ferrari mostra imagens da 488 GTB, sucesora da 458 Italia<\/a>) and El Mundo<\/em>, February 3 – Ferrari 488 GTB: alma sobrealimentada<\/a>).<\/p>\n

<\/em>Cooking<\/strong> \u2013 There was also interest in cooking, with numerous articles from the New York Times<\/em>. The American paper offered its readers the recipe of parmigiana, a dish that warms the cockles of the heart (January 30 – Parm Dishes to Warm Weary Souls<\/a>*), visited the Bulgari hotel of Milan which periodically hosted chefs of international fame (January 31 \u2013 At Bulgari Hotel Milan, Renowned Chefs Are Guests<\/a>*), and went to Langhe to taste Nebbiolo<\/strong> (January 29 – Your Next Lesson: Langhe Nebbiolo<\/a>*). El Mundo<\/em> also wrote about wine, travelling to Chianti, not an ideal place for teatotallers (February 4 – Chianti no es pa\u00eds para abstemios<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Tourism and culture<\/strong> \u2013 Finally, the Washington Post<\/em> carried several articles on its cultural pages: a review of an exhibition in the US capital on Piero di Cosimo<\/strong>, the misunderstood master of the 15th<\/sup> century (January 31 – Piero di Cosimo, a misunderstood master, at the National Gallery of Art<\/a>) and a suggestion to visit Venice during the Carnival, a spectacle for the senses (February 1 – Venice Carnival kicks off with spectacle for the senses).<\/p>\n
