Most of the reporting was on <strong>FCA<\/strong>, the group born of the merger between Fiat and Chrysler which, as CEO Sergio Marchionne, has seen positive growth in European activities returning with this year (January 13 on <em>New York Times<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2015\/01\/13\/business\/13reuters-autoshow-fca-europe.html?_r=0&amp;gwh=224B967261975914ECDEABD38DAA820A&amp;gwt=pay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat Chrysler Seen Breaking Even in Europe in 2015: Marchionne<\/a>* and <em>Les Echos<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/bourse.lesechos.fr\/infos-conseils-boursiers\/infos-conseils-valeurs\/infos\/salon-fiat-chrysler-peut-etre-a-l-equilibre-des-2015-en-europe-1024653.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat Chrysler peut-\u00eatre \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9quilibre d\u00e8s 2015 en Europe<\/a>), but is also planning on 1,500 new hirings in Italy. The news was picked up on papers such as the <em>New York Times <\/em>(January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2015\/01\/12\/business\/ap-eu-italy-fiat-chrysler-jobs.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat-Chrysler Sees 1,500 New Jobs at Italian Plant in Melfi<\/a>*)<em>, <\/em>the<em> Washingont Post<\/em> (January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/fiat-chrysler-looks-to-add-1500-jobs-in-italian-factory\/2015\/01\/12\/f86b0f10-9a6f-11e4-86a3-1b56f64925f6_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat Chrysler looks to add 1,500 jobs in Italian factory<\/a>) and <em>Bloomberg <\/em>&nbsp;(January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/ap\/2015-01-12\/fiat-chrysler-looks-to-add-1-500-jobs-in-italian-factory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat Chrysler looks to add 1,500 jobs in Italian factory<\/a>).<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The strategy to relaunch the group is starting with the sports model <strong>Alfa Romeo<\/strong>, a 6 billion dollar operation, as <em>Bloomsberg<\/em> explains (January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2015-01-12\/alfa-romeo-said-to-plan-first-suv-to-push-6-billion-expansion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfa Romeo Said to Plan First SUV in $6 Billion Expansion<\/a>), one based on the return of the brand on the American market with Italian-made cars (<em>Financial Times<\/em>, January 14 &#8211;&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/d7d12858-9ba9-11e4-b6cc-00144feabdc0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">After years of stagnation, Alfa Romeo aims to rediscover its mojo<\/a>*; <em>Valor Economico<\/em>, January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valor.com.br\/empresas\/3858690\/alfa-romeo-volta-aos-eua-com-modelo-conversivel%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfa Romeo volta aos EUA com modelo convers\u00edvel<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Other economic news concerned Made in Italy brands, such as <strong>Brunello Cucinelli<\/strong> whose sales grew 10% in 2014 (<em>Reuters<\/em>, January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/01\/12\/brunellocucinelli-results-idUSI6N0TW00O20150112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Cucinelli posts 10 pct rise in 2014 sales<\/a>) and <strong>Liu Jo, <\/strong>which is targeting the Spanish market, as its founder Marco Marchi explained to <em>Expansion<\/em> (January 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/2015\/01\/08\/directivos\/1420743131.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liu Jo conf\u00eda en el mercado del textil espa\u00f1ol<\/a>*)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> \u2013 There were a number of articles on culture last week. While <em>El Pais<\/em> reminisced on the explosive <strong>Gabrielle D\u2019Annunzio<\/strong> (January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2015\/01\/13\/actualidad\/1421177079_605132.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">D\u2019Annunzio, el h\u00e9roe mesi\u00e1nico<\/a>), there were other articles on art. The <em>Financial Times<\/em> ran a piece on the <strong>Renato Guttuso <\/strong>exhibit in London (9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/c82e3618-96fc-11e4-845a-00144feabdc0.html?siteedition=intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More exhibitions, including Vicky Wright and Renato Guttuso<\/a>) and the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> wrote about <strong>Medardo Rosso<\/strong>, the subject of an ambitious exhibit in New York (January 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/a-sculptor-of-suggestion-art-review-of-medardo-rosso-at-the-center-for-italian-modern-art-1421190944?KEYWORDS=italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Sculptor of Suggestion<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And \u2013 in writing about cinema \u2013 the foreign press remembered <strong>Francesco Rosi<\/strong>, who just passed away (January 10 on<em> New York Times<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2015\/01\/10\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-italy-obit-rosi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Filmmaker Francesco Rosi Dies at 92<\/a>; <em>El Pais<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2015\/01\/10\/actualidad\/1420897227_271152.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Muere Francesco Rosi, director de \u2018El caso Mattei\u2019<\/a>; <em>Liberation<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/cinema\/2015\/01\/10\/fransco-rosi-annonce-d-une-mort-chronique_1177730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Francesco Rosi, annonce d&#8217;une mort chronique<\/a>), and wrote about the <em>docudrama <\/em>that Ettore Scola dedicated to <strong>Federico Fellini<\/strong> in 2013 (El Pais, January 9 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2015\/01\/08\/videos\/1420735823_920380.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u00a1Qu\u00e9 extra\u00f1o llamarse Federico!<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism and culinary arts<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>Milan<\/strong> has taken first place as the tourist destination of the year of the Expo, as explained by the <em>New York Times<\/em> (January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/learning.blogs.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/12\/where-would-you-most-like-to-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Where Would You Most Like to Travel?<\/a>*) but <em>El Pais<\/em> also reports on the city, with an article on the museum that <strong>Giorgio Armani<\/strong> would like to create to pay tribute to the cradle of his success (January 13 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2015\/01\/13\/estilo\/1421155779_883094.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Armani regala a Mil\u00e1n un museo<\/a>). The Spanish paper also dedicates its travel section to <strong>Piedmont<\/strong>, the home of slow food suggesting a number of gastronomic itineraries (January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elviajero\/2015\/01\/14\/actualidad\/1421246792_446937.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Piamonte, cuna de \u2018slow food\u2019<\/a>).
