An Italian to head CERN<\/strong> \u2013 The first woman to head up CERN. Reuters <\/em>announced that Italian scientist Fabiola Gianotti<\/strong>, who was at the center of world attention in 2012 for her leadership role in the discovery of the Higgs Boson, was appointed to lead the Geneva research center (November 4 – Italian to become first woman head of CERN physics centre<\/a>).  El Mundo<\/em> (November 4 – Fabiola Gianotti, la primera mujer que dirigir\u00e1 el CERN<\/a>) and La Vanguardia<\/em> (November 4 – Una mujer dirigir\u00e1 por primera vez el CERN<\/a>) also reported the event, the latter explaining that Gianotti was the source of inspiration for women of science worldwide.<\/p>\n

Italian industry, foreign investments <\/strong>\u2013 The spot light was also on the news from Italian industrial groups, first of all the investment of Daimler in MV Agusta<\/strong>, aimed at cooperation between Mercedes and the Varese-based firm in high performance brands (October 31 su Les Echos<\/em> – Daimler prendra une participation de 25% dans MV Agusta<\/a>; Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em> –Daimler takes 25 pct stake in Italy’s MV Agusta<\/a>; Reuters<\/em> – Daimler to buy 25 percent stake in Italy’s MV Agusta<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The foreign press was also interested in the reorganization of Enel, <\/strong>which calls for getting approximately 2.7 billion euros from the sale of some of its share of the Spanish firm Endesa (November 5 su Financial Times<\/em>– Italy\u2019s Enel plans to sell off at least 17% of Endesa<\/a>; Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em> – Enel Plans to Raise About $3.4 Billion Through Endesa Share Sale<\/a>). Meanwhile, O Globo<\/em> explained that the Enel holding Green Power is building new wind and solar energy plants in Brazil for a cost of about 600 million dollars (November 4 – Enel Green Power vence leil\u00e3o no Brasil com 344 MW de e\u00f3licas e solares<\/a>*)<\/p>\n

Italian fashion worldwide<\/strong> \u2013 An event in Dubai to promote Italian fashion in the Emirates. El Pais<\/em> reported on the initiative of Vogue Italia, which is bringing Made in Italy brands to the wealthy Middle Eastern city. (November 2 – La moda italiana se divierte en Dub\u00e1i<\/a>). Instead, the Financial Times<\/em> rana n article on the adventure of Scarosso<\/strong>, the Made in Italy shoe brand, developed by SDA Bocconi of the Italian Marco Reiter and the German Moritz Offeney (November 2 –Entrepreneurs in step with a growing venture<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Culture and tourism, from the Colisseum to Salina<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press also ran a number of reports on tourism and culture, thanks to the attention international papers gave to the idea of restoring the original pavement of the Colisseum to bring back the arena\u2019s ancient image (Reuters<\/em>, November 2 – Rome’s Colosseum arena floor should be restored: minister<\/a>; El Mundo<\/em>, November 3 –  El ministro italiano de Cultura se apunta a poner suelo al Coliseo<\/a>; Le Monde<\/em>, November 3 – Le Colis\u00e9e de Rome pourrait bient\u00f4t retrouver son plancher<\/a>; El Mundo<\/em>, November 3 – \u00bfDevolver al Coliseo su arena?<\/a>). There were also articles in Sicily. The Washington Post<\/em> described five things that tourists can do there (November 3 – Sicily: 5 free things for visitors to do<\/a>), while the Financial Times<\/em> visited the hellish and yet heavenly scenery of Salina (October 31 – To hell and back, via Salina<\/a>).<\/p>\n
