The beginning of the Milan fashion shows was the spark that led to many articles on made in Italy luxury goods in the foreign press. Some papers concentrated on the collections on the catwalk (<em>The Times<\/em>, September &nbsp;17 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/life\/fashion\/article4209590.eceMilan%20Fashion%20Week%20s\/s%202015%20in%20pictures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milan Fashion Week s\/s 2015 in pictures<\/a>*), while others narrated the strategies of single brands (<em>Reuters<\/em>, September &nbsp;17 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/09\/17\/us-italy-furla-idUSKBN0HC11C20140917\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Furla plans sales push to cash in on affordable luxury boom<\/a>). There were also interviews and profiles of well-known Italians in the fashion business, such as the creative director of Gucci, <strong>Frida Giannini<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>The Times Magazine<\/em>, September 13 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/magazine\/article4200303.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gucci\u2019s feminist fashionista<\/a>*) and the director of Vogue Italia&nbsp;<strong>Franca Sozzani<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>The Times Magazine<\/em>, September &nbsp;13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/magazine\/article4200290.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Franca Sozzani: still ahead of the pack<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>The international press also took advantage of Fashion Week to tour the city. They toured the new Galleria \u2013 now a destination for fashion fans, with the arrival of houses of the caliber of <strong>Versace<\/strong> (<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, September &nbsp;18 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/milan-remakes-galleria-as-fashion-destination-1410995339?KEYWORDS=italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milan Remakes Galleria as Fashion Destination<\/a>*;&nbsp;<em>The New York Times<\/em>, 16 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/17\/fashion\/versace-helps-fund-restoration-of-milan-landmark.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Versace Helps a Restoration<\/a>) and some novelties for tourists, for example <strong>Moxy<\/strong>, the new hotel that Ikea has just opened at Malpensa Airport (<em>Financial Times<\/em>, September 12 &nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/d536f15a-380c-11e4-a687-00144feabdc0.html?siteedition=intl#axzz3DMk7YmAh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milan\u2019s Moxy: Ikea\u2019s first hotel<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>The many forms of Italian culture<\/strong> \u2013 As usual, the foreign press wrote about Italian culture. In cinema, the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> rediscovered the masterpieces by <strong>Roberto Rossellini<\/strong>, Roma Citt\u00e0 Aperta (September &nbsp;12 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/masterpiece-roberto-rossellinis-rome-open-city-1410567234?KEYWORDS=italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Thrilling Call to Conscience and Hope<\/a>), while&nbsp;<em>El Mundo <\/em>published a photogallery of <strong>Sophia Loren<\/strong> and her fabulous 80 years (September 15 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/album\/loc\/2014\/09\/15\/54130f05ca47410d498b4575.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sophia Loren, la octogenaria fabulosa<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>For literature, <em>El Pais<\/em>&nbsp;remembered&nbsp;<strong>Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa&nbsp;<\/strong>(September 11 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/ccaa.elpais.com\/ccaa\/2014\/09\/11\/galicia\/1410464737_565340.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recuerdos del pr\u00edncipe de Lampedusa<\/a>), and the Sunday supplement, <em>El Pais Semanal<\/em>, dedicated a long article to Noble Prize winner <strong>Dario Fo<\/strong> (September 12 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2014\/09\/12\/eps\/1410538307_232712.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dario Fo: \u201cNo hay conciencia social para sacar adelante el mundo\u201d<\/a>).&nbsp;<em>Le Monde<\/em> concentrated on painting, telling the story of <strong>Perugino<\/strong> for the exhibit in Paris, showing the works of the Renaissance master (September &nbsp;15 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/culture\/article\/2014\/09\/15\/le-perugin-dans-l-ombre-de-raphael_4487396_3246.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le P\u00e9rugin, dans l&#8217;ombre de Rapha\u00ebl<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, there was an article on the culture of Italians living in New York, and the photo exhibit \u201cItaliaNY\u201d (<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, September 14 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/italian-flair-meets-new-york-style-1410748336?KEYWORDS=italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Flair Meets New York Style<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipes for Italian cooking <\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; The foreign press dedicated a great deal of attention to italian cuisine. In its supplement<em> Style<\/em>, the <em>New York Times<\/em> ran an article on the italian culinary tradition: from eggplant parmesan (September 14 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cooking.nytimes.com\/recipes\/1016189-eggplant-parmesan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eggplant Parmesan<\/a>), to spaghetti with anchovies and breadcrumbs (September 14 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cooking.nytimes.com\/recipes\/1016264-spaghetti-with-garlicky-bread-crumbs-and-anchovies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spaghetti With Garlicky Bread Crumbs and Anchovies<\/a>), marinara sauce (September 14 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cooking.nytimes.com\/recipes\/1015987-marinara-sauce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marinara Sauce<\/a>), and ribollita (14 \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cooking.nytimes.com\/recipes\/1016052-ribollita\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ribollita<\/a>). &nbsp;The <em>Wall Street Journal&nbsp;<\/em>also gave instructions on Italian cooking, which \u2013 on September 12 \u2013 explained how to make cavatelli by hand (<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/unplug-your-pasta-making-a-recipe-for-handmade-cavatelli-1410534718?KEYWORDS=italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unplug Your Pasta Making: A Recipe for Handmade Cavatelli<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* marked articles viewable online upon payment or registration<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fashion and style in Milan<\/strong> \u2013 Fashion week and more.
