{"id":72083,"date":"2014-07-09T10:53:04","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T08:53:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.it\/pin\/week-june-27-july-4\/"},"modified":"2014-07-09T10:53:04","modified_gmt":"2014-07-09T08:53:04","slug":"week-june-27-july-4","status":"publish","type":"pin","link":"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.it\/en\/pin\/week-june-27-july-4\/","title":{"rendered":"The week of June 27- July 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fineco, Rottapharm and Sisal: a rise in market prices<\/strong> \u2013 A trading debut shoots prices up (<em>New York Times,<\/em> 2&nbsp; &#8211;&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/dealbook.nytimes.com\/2014\/07\/02\/finecobank-shares-rise-in-trading-debut-in-italy\/?_php=true&amp;_type=blogs&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FinecoBank Shares Rise in Trading Debut in Italy<\/a>) after a demand for shares that amounted to three times the offer (<em>Reuters, <\/em>June<em> <\/em>27&nbsp; &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/06\/27\/fineco-ipo-subscriptions-idUSI6N0OQ01W20140627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPO of UniCredit unit Fineco three times subscribed \u2013 sources<\/a>). <strong>Fineco<\/strong>, Unicredit\u2019s online bank was quoted on the Milan stock exchange and the 600 million euro operation (<em>New York Times<\/em>, June<em> <\/em>27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/dealbook.nytimes.com\/2014\/06\/27\/unicredits-online-unit-raises-at-least-916-5-million-in-i-p-o\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UniCredit\u2019s Online Unit Raises at Least $916 Million in I.P.O.<\/a>) was widely covered by the foreign press and news agencies (<em>Bloomberg, June <\/em>27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2014-06-27\/unicredit-sells-first-shares-in-online-broker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UniCredit Sells First Shares in Online Broker<\/a>) as well as starting the start of a series of sales on the Milan market. There have been other offerings, by the pharmaceutical firm <strong>Rottapharm <\/strong>(July 1&nbsp; su <em>New York Times, <\/em>July 1 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/dealbook.nytimes.com\/2014\/07\/01\/rottapharm-an-italian-drug-maker-sets-price-range-for-i-p-o\/?_php=true&amp;_type=blogs&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rottapharm, an Italian Drug Maker, Sets Price Range for I.P.O.<\/a>; and <em>Reuters,<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/07\/01\/rottapharm-ipo-idUSL6N0PC5HG20140701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Rottapharm sets IPO price range at 7.25-9 euros\/shr<\/a>) and the gaming group <strong>Sisal<\/strong> (<em>Reuters, <\/em>1\u00b0 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/07\/01\/sisal-ipo-idUSI6N0P600520140701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Sisal sets IPO price range at 6.3-7.7 euros\/shr<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>However, Italian businesses were in the spotlight even outside the Milan exchange. According to <em>Le Figaro,<\/em> <strong>Andrea Bonomi<\/strong> has joined the positioning for control of Club Med with a bid that ends in September (<em>Reuters, <\/em>June<em> <\/em>30 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/06\/30\/idUSI6N0OQ02Q20140630\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Bonomi sees bid for Club Med ending early Sept<\/a>), while the French tourist operator\u2019s price has shot up (<em>Bloomberg Businessweek, <\/em>July 1 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2014-07-01\/club-med-surges-to-five-year-high-after-1-dot-1-billion-bonomi-bid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Club Med Surges to Five-Year High on $1.1 Billion Bonomi Bid<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investments in Italy and abroad<\/strong> \u2013 On the other hand, investment flows to and from Italy continue. The cost of Italy\u2019s debt has dropped substantially (<em>Bloomberg Businessweek, <\/em>June<em> <\/em>27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/news\/2014-06-25\/italy-borrowing-costs-drop-to-record-at-zero-coupon-debt-sale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy Borrowing Costs Drop to Record at Zero-Coupon Debt Sale<\/a>) while Etihad is on the brink of entering <strong>Alitalia<\/strong> (<em>The Hindu, <\/em>June<em> <\/em>27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/business\/Industry\/etihad-agrees-to-buy-49-stake-in-alitalia\/article6148194.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Etihad agrees to acquire 49% of Alitalia; deal soon<\/a>). The agreement will allow the Emirate company to complete its global presence (<em>Bloomberg Businessweek, <\/em>June<em> <\/em>27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/articles\/2014-06-25\/with-alitalia-etihad-adds-to-its-global-stable-of-airlines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">With Alitalia, Etihad Adds to Its Global Stable of Airlines<\/a>). In addition, foreign investors seemed attracted by the public real estate agency\u2019s offering of historical properties (<em>Wall Street Journal, <\/em>July 1 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/articles\/italy-encounters-a-chilly-market-for-pieces-of-history-1404254378?KEYWORDS=italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy Encounters a Chilly Market for Pieces of History<\/a>), and the <em>Financial Times<\/em> reported on the managerial success in the world of SMIs. <strong>Dallara<\/strong>, explained the British paper, has based its top level technological success on innovation and knowledge (July 2 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/10bae7b2-fbbe-11e3-9a03-00144feab7de.html?siteedition=intl#axzz36Nxju6IO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dallara Automobili: knowledge company<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <em>Reuters<\/em>, reported on an Italian investment abroad: <strong>Amplifon<\/strong> is showing interest in its French rival Audika (27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/06\/27\/audika-amplifon-idUSL6N0P83Y120140627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Amplifon looking at French rival Audika<\/a>), and <em>La Vanguardia<\/em> ran a blog post about the 100 years of activity of the <strong>Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona<\/strong>, a presence that started with the Catalan port and grew with the close ties between the city and Italy (June<em> <\/em>29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.lavanguardia.com\/los-nombres-y-las-cosas\/?p=1306\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cien a\u00f1os de italianidad<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture and food<\/strong> \u2013 As always, the foreign press wrote about Italian culture, life and style. One of the major stories was the restoration of the <strong>Trevi Fountain, <\/strong>sponsored by <strong>Fendi<\/strong> (July 1&nbsp; in <em>The Times<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/tto\/news\/world\/europe\/article4135079.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rome\u2019s Trevi fountain gets fashion facelift with \u00a32m Fendi makeover<\/a>* and <em>El Pais<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2014\/07\/01\/actualidad\/1404232807_830575.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arrancan las obras de restauraci\u00f3n de la Fontana de Trevi<\/a>). The Spanish paper also reviewed <strong>Bob Rondelli<\/strong>\u2019s latest record and its Mediterranean voluptuousness (June<em> 2<\/em>9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2014\/06\/19\/babelia\/1403201088_091151.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Voluptuosidad mediterr\u00e1nea<\/a>), and there were other reports on Italian cooking and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet (June<em> 2<\/em>9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2014\/06\/19\/babelia\/1403201088_091151.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Voluptuosidad mediterr\u00e1nea<\/a>). The <em>Sunday Times<\/em> ran a piece on the recipes of Italian chef in London, <strong>Giorgio Locatelli<\/strong> (June<em> <\/em>29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesundaytimes.co.uk\/sto\/Magazine\/article1425873.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Classic: Giorgio Locatelli&#8217;s linguine with sardine and wild fennel<\/a>), and <em>El Mundo<\/em> reported the new proposals of <strong>Costa<\/strong> for culinary cruises &nbsp;(<em>El Mundo, <\/em>June<em> &nbsp;<\/em>27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocholeguas.com\/2014\/06\/25\/otrosmundos\/1403694299.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crucero gourmet a la italiana<\/a>).
