The interest of investors<\/strong> \u2013 While the foreign press showed increased interest in Italian politics, it also reserved space last week to discuss some positive signals in the economy. This is the case of the latest bond auction<\/strong> on February 12, with yields at the lowest levels since 2006 (Expansion<\/em> – Italia sigue los pasos de Espa\u00f1a y su bono toca m\u00ednimos de 2006<\/a>; El Pais<\/em> – La deuda italiana marca m\u00ednimos desde 2006 en plena crisis pol\u00edtica<\/a>). This was a record low of Italian borrowing costs with an increase in bonds sold, amounting to 8 billion euros (Businessweek<\/em> – Italy Sells Debt at Record Low as Investors Shrug Off Tensions<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Certainly, the growing interest of international investors in real estate (explained on February 13 by the Morrocan l\u2019Economiste<\/em>– L\u2019immobilier retrouve des couleurs<\/a>) might soon be seen in the area of privatization. The Financial Times<\/em> interviewed Massimo Sarmi, <\/em><\/strong>CEO of the Italian Postal system on that very topic (February 12 – Italy readies \u201cstrange animal\u201d postal group for sell-off<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

Tourism, from Bergamo to Etna<\/strong> \u2013 There were, as usual, numerous suggestions for visits to Italy in the foreign press. The Times<\/em> wrote about a weekend in Bergamo<\/strong>, whose elegant streets are a taste of authentic Italy \u201d (February 8 – A weekend in… Bergamo, Italy<\/a> *), while El Pais<\/em> went all the way to the slopes of Etna<\/strong> where the ruins of Taormina meld with the traces of all the Mediterranean cultures as well as refined eating (February 7 – Pizzas crujientes frente al Etna<\/a>). And while the New York Times<\/em> went to Umbria<\/strong> to discover the charm of the second hand bridal gowns collected by the nuns of the Convent of Santa Rita da Cascia (February 11 – An Italian Monastery Becomes a Fashion Destination for Brides in a Frugal Era<\/a>), El Mundo<\/em> dedicated a photo gallery of striking panoramas of the heel of Italy<\/strong>, from Trani to Gallipoli, passing by Lecce (February 10 – Panor\u00e1micas del tac\u00f3n de Italia<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Art, cinema and design<\/strong> \u2013 There were also articles on the cultural pages. El Pais<\/em> visited the exhibit \u201cThemes and Variations, the Empire of Light\u201d at the Peggy Guggheneim Collection \u2013 Venice<\/strong>, a sensorial dialogue among 54 works from yesterday and today (February 10 – Jugando con la luz en Venecia<\/a>). And Les Echos<\/em> published an article on Gaetano Pesce<\/strong>, father of Italian design. Pesce\u2019s name is already included in the history of the 20th<\/sup> century and his creations are being exposed prior to an auction at Sotheby\u2019s in Paris (February 7 –  Gaetano Pesce, un designer d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans l\u2019histoire<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Food and Wine<\/strong> \u2013 The Times<\/em> travelled to Campania to tell the story of Antonio Mastrobernardino<\/strong>, the winemaker who wanted to recreate the ancient wines of Pompei (February 7 – Antonio Mastroberardino: Italian winemaker<\/a>*), while Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> explained the recipe of the world famous Bolognese sauce (February 10 – Ihre Heimat ist die Welt<\/a>). Finally, El Pais<\/em> published a review of the film \u201cHappy Family\u201d by Gabriele Salvatores<\/strong>, with tones of Pirandello (7 – Salvatores busca a Pirandello<\/a>). <\/p>\n
