Investors\u2019 appetite for Italian luxury brands<\/strong> \u2013 A stock that fits like a glove for investors: the Milan stock market is ready for Moncler<\/strong>\u2019s IPO and the foreign press is getting ready to report on the year\u2019s biggest stock launch, with an estimated demand for shares 30 times the offer (Bloomberg<\/em>, 11 dicembre- Moncler IPO Priced at Top of Range as Demand Exceeds $27 Billion<\/a>). The company is estimated to be worth over 2.5 bln euro (Wall Street Journal<\/em>, December 11 – Moncler Prices IPO at Top of Indicative Range<\/a>). <\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Financial Times<\/em> and the Washington Post<\/em>, the operation\u2019s success is a sign of investors\u2019 appetite for stock in the European luxury sector (December 12   – Moncler proves a neat fit for investors <\/a>; Moncler IPO shows strong investor appetite<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The foreign press is not only interested in Moncler. The Times<\/em> also wrote about fashion last week, publishing an interview with Diego Della Valle who talked about the philosophy of Tod\u2019s<\/strong> (December 6  – Diego Della Valle recommends . . .Tod\u2019s Double Stripe Bags <\/a>*), while the Wall Street Journal <\/strong><\/em>underlined the historic commitment of the Marches based company to the restoration of the Coliseum (December 6   – Diego Della Valle Gives Back to His Country<\/a>). <\/p>\n

And the connection between luxury goods and Made in Italy was not limited to fashion. According to Bloomberg<\/em>, Fiat<\/strong> is getting ready to invest 9 billion euro to launch a high-end series in Italy (December 9   – Fiat Said to Spend $12 Billion for Made-in-Italy Luxury<\/a>; and a report from O Globo<\/em> – Fiat investir\u00e1 at\u00e9 US$ 12 bi em carros de luxo fabricados na It\u00e1lia <\/a>).<\/p>\n

The international success of \u201cThe Great Beauty\u201d<\/strong>  <\/strong>\u2013<\/strong> Paolo Sorrentino<\/strong> and Tony Servillo <\/strong>were the subject of articles on the cultural pages of the foreign press. The occasion was three awards for the film  – best photograph, best director, and best actor \u2013 by the European Film Academy to \u201cThe Great Beauty\u201d <\/strong>(New York Times<\/em>, December 9   – Italian Film Wins Honors in Europe<\/a>; Publico<\/em> December 8 – Paolo Sorrentino foi o vencedor dos pr\u00e9mios europeus<\/a>). El Pais<\/em> ran an article about Servillo\u2019s film career (December 6   – Servillo, en el teatro de la \u2018dolce vita\u2019<\/a>), while Sorrentino was interviewed by the German weekly Die Zeit<\/em> (December 8   –  “Mein Film ist mutig!”<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Music and culture<\/strong> \u2013 There was also a great deal of interest in the world of music last week. El Pais<\/em> wrote about how Italian opera houses are getting ready to celebrate the 200th<\/sup> anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi<\/strong> (December 8  – Italia vibra con Verdi<\/a>). And in the middle of contrasting reviews of the La Traviata currently being performed at La Scala<\/strong>, there was interested in the opera house\u2019s new musical director, Riccardo Chailly <\/strong>(December 10   su Washington Post <\/em>– La Scala takes another step in artistic transition<\/a> and the New York Time<\/em>s – La Scala Confirms Chailly Will Be Principal Conductor and Music Director<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Wall Street Journal<\/em> also wrote about music, although in terms of lifestyle, visiting the Tuscan buen retiro<\/em> <\/strong>of Andrea Bocelli <\/strong>(December 6   – Andrea Bocelli and La Dolce Villa<\/a>). The tenor was also the subject of an article in the Washington Post<\/em>, which reported on the latest workshop at Boston\u2019s MIT on tech support for the vision impaired with the help of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation (December 6   – Bocelli visits MIT for adaptive tech workshop<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Finally, El Pais<\/em> ran a piece on painting, exploring the words of Pietro Bellotti<\/strong>, the \u201cother\u201d Canaletto, being shown in Venice (December 6   – Tras las huellas in\u00e9ditas de Pietro Bellotti, el otro Canaletto<\/a>). Finally, Le Figaro<\/em> reported the news of the Legion of Honor, the highest medal given by the Republic of France, to RAI President Anna Maria Tarantola<\/strong> (December 10   – La pr\u00e9sidente de la RAI re\u00e7oit la L\u00e9gion d\u2019honneur<\/a>).<\/p>\n
