Draghi\u2019s optimism<\/strong> \u2013 The man reshaping the Central European Bank has been looking at the future of the euro with cautious optimism. These words, spoken by Mario Draghi<\/strong> during a press conference on January 10, were reported in the major foreign papers. While Arab News<\/em> and Washington Post <\/em>focused on the reforms of the Central European Bank enacted by the former Governor of the Bank of Italy (Arab News<\/em> – How Draghi is reshaping Europe\u2019s central bank<\/a>; Washington Post <\/em>– In his first year as ECB chief, Draghi has loaned to banks, cut rates and offered to buy bonds<\/a>), the Spanish  La Vanguardia<\/em> and the Brazilian Valor Economico<\/em> reported on signs of recovery in the euro zone (La Vanguardi<\/em>a – Draghi se muestra optimista y ve que los mercados se normalizan<\/a>; Valor Economico<\/em> – Draghi v\u00ea retomada gradual da zona do euro, mas cita riscos<\/a>*)<\/p>\n

Elections<\/strong> \u2013 International agencies and dailies did not forget the Italian election  campaign underway and ran several articles mostly on Mario Monti<\/strong>\u2019s foray into politics. There were articles in Le Monde<\/em> (December 29 – M. Monti se lance dans la bataille \u00e9lectorale \u00e0 la t\u00eate d\u2019une coalition de centre droit<\/a>); China Post<\/em> (December 27 – Italians should \u2018rise up\u2019 & refresh politics: PM Monti<\/a>); Arab News<\/em> (December 25 – Monti\u2019s agenda: \u2018Change Italy and reform Europe\u2019<\/a>); Financial Times<\/em> (December 28 – Monti to lead centrist group into election<\/a>); Wall Street Journal<\/em> (January 3 – Falling Italian Yields May Be Helping Monti, but Not the Euro<\/a>); Washington Post<\/em> (January 4 – Italy’s Monti off and running: Unveils symbol, plan to ensure ticket’s candidates are clean<\/a>); and The Economist<\/em> (January 5 – Italian politics: Keeping the radical left in check<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Generali and Fiat, growth abroad<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press also covered the growth abroad of two large Italian groups. Reports on the 2.5 billion euro purchase of the Czech PPF by Generali<\/strong> were run on January 8 by the  Financial Times<\/em> (Italy’s Generali moves deeper into EM with PPF buy <\/a> and  Generali: strategy in motion <\/a>), Gulf News<\/em> (Generali buys out Czech venture<\/a>); New York Times <\/em>(Generali to Buy Stake in Joint Venture for $3.3 Billion<\/a>); Les Echos<\/em> – Generali se renforce en Europe Centrale et en Russie<\/a>). There were also pieces on Fiat<\/strong>, which is growing in the United States and Brazil and is preparing a new Jeep to be produced in Italy in  La Tribune<\/em> ( Chrysler en plein boom, GM \u00e0 la tra\u00eene, sur un march\u00e9 auto am\u00e9ricain porteur<\/a>), Valor Economico<\/em> – Fiat alcan\u00e7a recorde anual de vendas no Brasil em 2012<\/a> ) and La Nacion<\/em> (Habr\u00e1 un nuevo jeep made in italy<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Made in Italy and emerging economies<\/strong> \u2013 Finally, the foreign press also reported on the development of the Made in Italy brand in the markets of emerging economies. Folha De S. Paulo<\/em> explained the strategies of  Zegna<\/strong> (January 6 – Emergentes renovam Ermenegildo Zegna<\/a>), while Reuters<\/em> and Wall Street Journal<\/em> concentrated on Ferragamo<\/strong> (January 3 – Ferragamo raises stake in distribution venture<\/a>; January 4 – Shoe Scion Salvatore Ferragamo Trots the Globe<\/a>). Finally, on January 8, the Indian press ran articles on the agreement signed by Versace<\/strong> to sell on this Asian market (The Hindu Business Line<\/em> – Magenta Fashions to offer Italian Versace products in India<\/a>; Times of India<\/em> – Versace 19.69 ties up with Majgenta for India foray<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n
