This week, the foreign press examined the results of a year of Italy\u2019s technical government (<em>Les Echos<\/em>, November 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/economie-politique\/monde\/actu\/0202377219531-l-italie-s-interroge-sur-le-bilan-contraste-de-mario-monti-509563.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L\u2019Italie s\u2019interroge sur le bilan contrast\u00e9 de Mario Monti<\/a>) , marked by a decrease in interest rates and the cost of debt&nbsp; (November 14 in <em>The China Post<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinapost.com.tw\/business\/europe\/2012\/11\/14\/360938\/Italy-sees.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy sees interest rate fall to 1.762% in bond sale worth 6.5 billion euros<\/a> and <em>Washington Post<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/italian-government-easily-raises-65-billion-euros-in-12-month-bonds-at-lower-rates\/2012\/11\/13\/04b3c8a2-2d80-11e2-b631-2aad9d9c73ac_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian government easily raises 6.5 billion euros in 12-month bonds at lower rates<\/a>). In two interviews with <em>Sueddeutsche Zeitung<\/em> (November 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/diepresse.com\/home\/wirtschaft\/eurokrise\/1311978\/Italiens-Finanzminister_Viel-zu-viel-Zeit-verplempert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Viel zu viel Zeit verplempert&#8221;<\/a>) and the <em>Financial Times<\/em> (November 15 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/33d24b72-2f42-11e2-b88b-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2CN4p5a2y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy urged to cut public spending<\/a>), Minister of the Economy, <strong>Vittorio Grilli<\/strong>, explained however that Italy has to continue with its reforms with the leadership of <strong>Mario Monti<\/strong> (November 15 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/28999996-2f23-11e2-b8c5-00144feabdc0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business elite desperate to keep Monti<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leading figures in Italian culture<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press also turned its attention to culture. The <em>Washington Post<\/em> published an interview by the Associated Press of <strong>Riccardo Muti<\/strong>, concerned about the cuts in spending that the financial crisis demands (November 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/ap-interview-maestro-muti-frets-about-culture-crisis-because-of-strained-government-budgets\/2012\/11\/14\/b1afb672-2e63-11e2-b631-2aad9d9c73ac_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maestro Muti frets about culture &#8216;crisis&#8217; because of strained government budgets<\/a>). The foreign press also published articles on two Italian writers: <strong>Giancarlo De Cataldo<\/strong>, the judge and novelist who <em>Die Zeit<\/em> visited at his home in Rome (November 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeit.de\/2012\/45\/Giancarlo-De-Cataldo-Zeit-der-Wut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alles eine Erfindung?<\/a>) and <strong>Andrea Camilieri<\/strong>, the author who \u2013 according to <em>La Nacion<strong> <\/strong><\/em>\u2013<strong> <\/strong>manages to make the dead talk (November 14 &#8211;&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanacion.com.ar\/1526222-camilleri-hace-hablar-a-los-muertos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Camilleri hace hablar a los muertos<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fashion, tourism, lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 Finally, all heads were turned to fashion. The <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> explained the secrets of the success of <strong>Missioni<\/strong> (November 15 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424127887324735104578117661159772122.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How Missoni Keeps Iconic Brand Fresh<\/a>*), while the <em>New York Times <\/em>&nbsp;reported on how much Made in Italy brands have contributed to the restoration of Italian monuments (November 15 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/11\/16\/fashion\/16iht-fgiving16.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fashion Legacies of a Different Kind<\/a>). Another Italian attraction is its culinary tradition. While <em>The China Post<\/em> visited Italy\u2019s vineyards (November 15 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinapost.com.tw\/art\/lifestyle\/2012\/11\/15\/360982\/Italian-wines.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Italian wines designed to be enjoyed with good food<\/a>), the <em>Washington Post<\/em> reported that Jim Messina, in charge of Barack Obama\u2019s re-election campaign, decided to take a vacation. Where?
