Last week, the foreign press focused on lowered rates in the most recent bond auction. The&nbsp; <em>Financial Times <\/em>reported the drop in an article on September 13 ( <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/779c82d4-fd8b-11e1-8fc3-00144feabdc0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s borrowing costs hit two-year lows<\/a>*), while the Spanish <em>Expansion <\/em>underlined that the rates of ten-year bonds have also fallen for the first time since March, to below 5% (September 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/2012\/09\/14\/mercados\/1347610017.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El inter\u00e9s del bono de Italia baja del 5% por primera vez desde marzo<\/a>). There were also articles on the Frankfurt-based bank president, <strong>Mario Draghi<\/strong>. The <em>New York Times<\/em> ran a far-reaching profile, with another play on the nickname \u201cSuper Mario\u201d (September 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/09\/11\/opinion\/super-mario-to-the-rescue.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Super Mario to the Rescue<\/a>) and the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> underscored that the moves of the ECB also unblocked the corporate European bond market, increasing possible liquidity for the continent\u2019s businesses. (September 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390443779404577643404056389344.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Super Mario Unblocks Europe&#8217;s Bond Market<\/a>; translated in E<em>l Mundo<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/2012\/09\/10\/opinion\/1347310638.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Super Mario desbloquea el mercado europeo de bonos corporativos<\/a>). Italian Prime Minister <strong>Mario Monti<\/strong>, interviewed by the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, commented that for now Italy has no intention of asking for help from the ECB (September 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/lally-weymouth-interview-with-mario-monti-interim-italian-prime-minister\/2012\/09\/10\/97de1c04-fb53-11e1-8adc-499661afe377_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mario Monti, interim Italian prime minister, talks with Lally Weymouth<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Industry, food, fashion: Italian companies in the world<\/strong> \u2013 As Europe looks for a way out of the crisis, Italian groups are wagering on emerging markets. While waiting for the announcement of the October plan for strategies for European factories, <strong>Fiat<\/strong> is accelerating its approach to new markets: the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> (September 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390444023704577649580149365046.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat&#8217;s New China Model<\/a>) and the <em>South China Morning Post<\/em> (September 13 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmp.com\/business\/companies\/article\/1036267\/fiat-returns-mainland-market-launch-new-viaggio-compact-sedan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat returns to mainland with new compact car<\/a>*)&nbsp; reported on the new model, \u201cViaggio,\u201d that the Turin-based car manufacturer is launching on the Chinese market. And the Argentinean <em>La Nacion<\/em>&nbsp; turned its attention to the Italian car maker\u2019s sale in Brazil (September 8 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanacion.com.ar\/1506051-fiat-rompe-los-records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fiat rompe los r\u00e9cords<\/a>).<br \/>While <strong>Lavazza<\/strong>, one of the largest food groups, is investing in the US coffee producer Green Mountain (<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, September 11- Green Mountain Shares Bolstered by Lavazza&#8217;s Move), international papers also focused on fashion.&nbsp; <em>La Vanguardia<\/em> wrote of the revamping of the <strong>Gucci<\/strong> stores (September 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressdisplay.com\/pressdisplay\/it\/showlink.aspx?bookmarkid=9TM4D3E3IJ31&amp;preview=article&amp;linkid=42ff2034-2c48-40c4-905a-aeef71604e53&amp;pdaffid=5ndEKy1fE2RtBtNC0fV3Dw==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gucci honra su origen<\/a>*), while <em>ABC<\/em> interviewed designer <strong>Robverto Cavalli<\/strong> on the occasion of the opening of his first store in Madrid (September 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.es\/20120914\/estilo-moda\/abci-entrevista-cavalli-201209131805.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roberto Cavalli \u00abMe gusta copiar las creaciones de Dios, el gran dise\u00f1ador\u00bb<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sports and tourism in Italy<\/strong> \u2013 The foreign press also pointed the spotlight on two Italian athletes, after the US open victory&nbsp; of <strong>Sara Errani<\/strong> and <strong>Roberta Vinci<\/strong>, (September 9 in the <em>Washington Post<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/italys-errani-and-vinci-win-us-open-womens-doubles-title-beating-hlavackova-and-hradecka\/2012\/09\/09\/9ab3a252-fab1-11e1-a65a-d6e62f9f2a5a_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Errani and Vinci win US Open women&#8217;s doubles title, beating Hlavackovav and Hradecka<\/a> and <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/APe6faa16f7b424600bf1d99656303ab76.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Errani, Vinci win US Open women&#8217;s doubles title<\/a>). And, finally, there were articles about tourism in Italy.
