Incoming investments and internationalization of Italian companies<\/strong> \u2013 This week, the foreign press once again focused on economic events in Italy. While the primary interest was in economic policy, there were also articles on investments, both foreign capital coming to Italy and Italian companies that are growing abroad. The spotlight shown on the purchase of Valentino <\/strong>by the royal family of Qatar. The news was announced on July 13, and attracted attention because of the fame of the brand (a \u201clegend\u201d of fashion) among the major papers in Europe El Mundo<\/em> – La familia real de Qatar compra Valentino por 700 millones<\/a>; Le Figaro <\/em>– Le Qatar s\u2019offre la maison italienne Valentino<\/a>; Financial Times<\/em> – Qatari buyers acquire Italy luxury groups<\/a>*) Asia (The China Post<\/em> – Qatar group buys fashion house Valentino<\/a>) and, obviously the Middle East (Gulf News<\/em> – Doha firm buys Valentino<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The foreign press also set aside some space to investments and international expansion of Italian companies. The Jakarta Post<\/em> reported that  Pirelli<\/strong> was given authorization for construction of a 126 million dollar factory in Indonesia (July 13 – Pirelli gets nod for $126m plant in RI<\/a>), while \u2013 according to  The Hindu Business<\/em>, Fiat <\/strong>is trying to speed up its expansion in India (July 9 – Fiat \u2018 stepping on it\u2019 to speed up India plans<\/a>). The Italian firm Moleskin<\/strong> is also developing abroad, with plans to be quoted in the stock market (Financial Times<\/em>, July 7 – Moleskine to test volatile market with IPO<\/a>; Valor Economico<\/em>,  July 9 – Moleskine planeja IPO em outubro<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

Vittorio Grilli and leaders in the worlds of culture and research<\/strong> \u2013 Based on the number of comments in the foreign press, the top Italian figures of the week included Vittorio Grilli<\/strong>, Italy\u2019s new financial minister. There were numerous articles about him after he was sworm in by Mario Monti (July 12, Les Echos<\/em> – Italie : Vittorio Grilli nomm\u00e9 au poste de ministre des Finances<\/a>*; The China Post<\/em> – Italy ppoints new finance minister to replace Monti<\/a>, Le Monde <\/em>– M. Monti se choisit un successeur au minist\u00e8re de l’\u00e9conomie pour poursuivre la “guerre”<\/a>*; Valor Economico <\/em>– Primeiro-ministro italiano nomeia novo ministro da Economia e Finan\u00e7as<\/a>).  There were also articles on leaders in research and culture. El Pais<\/em> reported on the appointment of  Caterina Biscari<\/strong> as the head of the Spanish particle accelerator (July 11 – Caterina Biscari, nueva directora del sincrotr\u00f3n Alba<\/a>), while S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung<\/em> interviewed Carla Di Francesco<\/strong>, director of the Department of Cultural and Landscape Assets of the Region of Emilia Romagna, on the damage from the earthquake (July 7 – Stein um Stein<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Music, art and tourism<\/strong> \u2013 As always, there was no lack of attention to music, art and tourism. The Financial Times<\/em> paid tribute to Luca Signorelli<\/strong>, a master of the Renaissance (July 8 – Luca Signorelli, Perugia, Orvieto, Citt\u00e0 di Castello<\/a>), while La Vanguardia<\/em> praised the performance of Mozart at the Arena of Verona<\/strong> (July 9 – Gran Mozart en Verona<\/a>*). The Barcelona paper also stopped at Anzola Emilia to visit a museum of ice cream<\/strong>, an Italian product that employees over 10 thousand people (La Vanguardia<\/em>, July 10 – Italia, orgullosa de su \u2018gelato\u2019, le abre un museo<\/a>*).<\/p>\n
