Luxury, culture and Italy\u2019s positive image<\/strong>. The attention of the international press remained focused on Italian events, in particular government bonds, reforms and political issues. They were also interested in news from the manufacturing sector and the world of culture. European and Middle Eastern newspapers opened with reports of the inauguration of Italo,<\/em><\/strong> Ntv\u2019s new high speed train link (including, April 21, Le Figaro<\/em>: Italo, le train chic qui fait r\u00eaver les Fran\u00e7ais<\/a>, Arab News<\/em> \u2013 Italy launches private high-speed train*; and Die Welt<\/em> \u2013 Ein Ferrari auf Schienen<\/a>). Lamborghini <\/strong>made news in the automotive sector. Along with the launching of its new SUV (April 24 – China Daily<\/em>: Lamborghini rethinks SUVs with Urus<\/a>), the luxury car maker attracted the interest of the Indian press (April 27 – Times of India<\/em>: Lamborghini sees young India driving growth<\/a>). And then, there was news from Piaggio<\/strong> in the Indian press, but not only, reporting on the company\u2019s plans to use Vespa to conquer the Sub-Continent\u2019s market (April 26 – Financial Times<\/em>: Vespa brings La Dolce Vita to India<\/a>; Times of India<\/em> \u2013 Piaggio brings back iconic Vespa<\/a>). Finally, Fiat<\/strong> is in the spotlight with its new 500L and Sedan in China, both manufactured in partnership with local firms (April 20 – The Wall Street Journal<\/em>: Fiat Readies New Sedan for China<\/a>; Die Welt<\/em> – Jetzt wollen auch die Italiener Mini-J\u00e4ger werden<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There was also reporting on Eni<\/strong>: both the Russian and American press paid special attention to the agreement between the Italian firm and its Russian counterpart to explore offshore Arctic deposits (April 25 – The Wall Street Journal<\/em>: Eni, Rosneft Reach Deal To Explore Arctic Fields*; Moscow Times<\/em>: Eni Signs $125Bln Rosneft Oil Deal<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Culture and Italian design<\/strong> \u2013 Even after the Milan Furniture Fair closed, the foreign press continued talking about Italian design. Le Figaro<\/em> printed an article on the hundredth anniversary of Poltrona Frau<\/strong> Frau<\/strong> (April 21 – L\u2019\u00e9diteur de mobilier italien Poltrona Frau f\u00eate ses 100 ans et confirme son r\u00f4le dans le design*), while Handelsblatt<\/em> ran a piece about some of the new trends shown at the fair (April 20 – Wie Versace M\u00f6belh\u00e4usern Konkurrenz macht<\/a>). Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> ran a series on Italian design by describing unusual details on storefront shutters and sunglasses (April 21 –Bella Italia 1: Der Rolladen<\/a>; April 26 – Und was machen sie bei Regen?<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The foreign press also showed its interest in movies, theater and literature. While the Cinecitt\u00e0<\/strong> studio is attempting a Renaissance on its 75th<\/sup> anniversary (April 27 – Time magazine<\/em>: On Its 75th Anniversary, Italy’s Cinecitt\u00e0 Studio Attempts to Recapture Its Former Glory<\/a>), and Ermanno Olmi\u2019s <\/strong>Centochiodi<\/em> was chosen to inaugurate the Jeddah European film festival (April 23 – Arab News<\/em>: European film fest kicks off with \u2018Centochiodi\u2019<\/a>), Giuseppe Verdi\u2019s<\/em> <\/strong>La Forza del Destino<\/em> was performed in Buenos Aires (April 21 – La Nacion<\/em>: Verdi, entre Gardel y Golijov<\/a>). Finally, the South American press named Viola di Grado<\/strong> the best young author of Italian literature (April 22 aprile – Folha de S. Paulo<\/em>: Semana de Design une consagrados e novatos<\/a>;  <\/em> – La joven musa g\u00f3tica de las letras italianas<\/a>).<\/p>\n
