Labor: Monti\u2019s Revolution<\/strong> \u2013 Job market reform has pushed Italy and the government\u2019s economic policy to the front pages of the foreign press. The world\u2019s major papers carefully followed negotiations between the social partners (Wall Street Journal<\/em>, March 17 – Italy’s Monti Presses on Labor Reform<\/a>*; Gulf News,  <\/em>March <\/em>20 – Italian leader to press ahead with labour law revision<\/a>, describing Mont\u2019s proposals; New York Times<\/em>, March 19 – Italy Tackles Labor Laws That Divide Young and Old<\/a>, and the Government\u2019s approval; The China Post<\/em>, March 23 – Italy approves Monti\u2019s deregulation reform<\/a>).  Some articles also analyzed the role in the negotiations of Mario Monti<\/strong>, who has been called on \u2013 according to The Economist<\/em> \u2013 to \u201cuntangle\u201d the knots   (March 23 – Italy\u2019s reforms: Monti\u2019s labour-law tangle<\/a>) and promote an employment \u201crevolution\u201d,  according to the Portuguese paper Publico <\/em>(March 21 – A revolu\u00e7\u00e3o laboral de Mario Monti<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

The changes in Italy over the last several months (including the fact that Italy\u2019s risk premium  has fallen below that of Spain, as reported by ABC <\/em>(March 19 – Italia \u00absorpassa\u00bb a Espa\u00f1a<\/a>) are the subject of other articles. Two of these explain how European Central Bank President Mario Draghi <\/strong>has, like the Prime Minister, helped improve Italy\u2019s image at home and abroad (Washington Post<\/em>, March 20 – Italians take heart from a pair of Super Marios, projecting image of can-do Italy<\/a>; The China Post, <\/em>March <\/em>22 –  Two Marios reshape Italy\u2019s image at home and abroad<\/a><\/p>\n

Italian Business World<\/strong> \u2013 the spotlight was also trained on Italian businesses. Fiat, <\/strong>used to the attention, was defined by Le Figaro<\/em> as a \u201claboratory\u201d for the future of the automotive industry (March 21 – Fiat-Chrysler, laboratoire de l\u2019industrie automobile<\/a>). The foreign press also discussed Menarini<\/strong>, which has signed an agreement to expand in Brazil (Valor Economico<\/em>, March 21 – Menarini fecha acordo com Biolab para crescer no pa\u00eds<\/a>*). There is also mention of the state of Italy\u2019s luxury goods, which are \u2013 according to  Le Monde<\/em> \u2013 in excellent health thanks to sales in emerging markets  (March 16 – Le luxe italien, port\u00e9 par les pays \u00e9mergents, affiche une sant\u00e9 \u00e9clatante<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Finally, there was interest in leading figures of the business world. The foreign press discussed not only new Confindustria President Giorgio Squinzi<\/strong> (Les Echos<\/em>, March 23, Le nouveau patron des patrons italiens, repr\u00e9sentatif du capitalisme transalpin<\/a>), but also an Italian manager famous abroad as the executive vice-president of Dassault Syst\u00e8mes, Monica Menghini<\/strong> (Les Echos<\/em>, March 22 – Monica Menghini<\/a>).<\/p>\n
