On Thursday February 9, Aspen Institute Italia organized the international roundtable on “Strong and unbalanced: how the IMF can help manage the global economy” with the Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Rodrigo de Rato. The meeting, first of a series the Director de Rato will hold in various countries, focused on the main challenges Italy and Europe face today and the IMF’s medium-term strategy: increase monitoring so as to render it more useful to governments; pay greater attention to all issues related to exchange rates; take into consideration the impact of trade, fiscal and monetary policies on neighboring countries; prevent the crisis in emerging countries; increase coordination among international finance institutions and creditor countries in order to help the low-income ones. Particular attention was devoted to the FMI governance: one of the proposals in fact, concerned more voting power for emerging countries to ensure their participation in the decision-making process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
