The 8th edition of The Aspen Institute Italia Seminar on Leadership, Globalization and the Quest for Common Values was held in collaboration with The Aspen Institute

The three-day seminar is dedicated to the memory of Aspen Institute Italia co-founder Ennio Presutti, who passed away in 2008.

The debate, held in English, is based on the distinguished core program of The Aspen Institute in the United States. The seminar invites its Italian and foreign participants to examine and discuss texts by classic and contemporary writers, with a view to prompting an exchange on the issues facing 21st century leaders and on how to interpret and confront the complexities of the contemporary world.

The discussion touched on a variety of topics that included the values and limitations of democracy, the sustainability of growth models, the globalization of environmental threats, humanism and technology, and the relationship between individual conscience, education and the exercise of leadership.

The discussion was moderated by Leigh Hafrey, Senior Lecturer on Behavioral and Policy Sciences at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and Giovanni Farese, Associate Professor of Economic History at the European University of Rome and editor-in-chief of The Journal of European Economic History.

A total of 200 persons from 26 countries have taken part in the 8 editions of the Seminar, which was launched in 2011.
